Why? Because you can! And pickle, and jam, or otherwise celebrate the resurgence of the domestic arts our forebears held so dear. Put on your best apron and step into our kitchen, won't you?
I love making as many foods and drinks from scratch as I can. I've recently gotten into brewing and am loving it! I blog a bit about what I'm up to at http://localkitchener.wordpress.com
A peach and pear chutney that makes use of the peels to add extra flavor and pectin.
Our family's go-to canned salsa. We make as much as we can (sorry, bad pun) and enjoy it all year long! By adding the peaches late in the process they retain their shape and make the salsa look very nice in jars!
The ultimate "terroir" beer - this beer is brewed using local maple sap. It's a strong Scotch ale, known as a wee heavy. Quite strong, and very malty, yet smooth and pleasing to drink.
A cultured/fermented ketchup that features only local ingredients.
A simple jam made with equal parts arctic kiwis and concord grapes, sweetened with just a bit of honey.
