Homemade grenadine is really easy to make, it adds a little more zing than the store bought kind. When I tasted it I wasreally surprised how much it tasted like the real thing. A little less syrupy, more flavorful version of the real thing.
Daunted by canning, no more, I've leapt in with both feet. This sweet & gingery chutney was wholey inspired by the abundant baskets of fruit at a local farmers market. Packed with organic pears, apples, dried cherries & spices, it is warmth in a jar.
No local cranberries in California, but no worries. Pomegranates stand in for a sweet-tart, hard-set jelly that resembles the stuff from a can you grew up with. (But you'll have to carve the ridges yourself.)
Pomegranate molasses is a traditional ingredient in Middle Eastern cooking and can be found at Middle Eastern markets, or you can easily make some yourself with some pomegranate juice, sugar, and lemon.
