Acid cheeses, like mascarpone and ricotta, are some of the easiest, quickest cheeses you can make at home, not to mention much less expensive and tasty than store-bought. This year I baked my holiday pumpkin pie with freshly made mascarpone. Yum!
Compote is a dessert originating from 17th century France made of fruit preserved in syrup. The fruit is gently cooked in water or spirits with sugar and spices. I used black cherries in this batch but any sweet or sour cherry will DO.
The season for golden raspberries is fleeting so take advantage of it with this confluence of berry and pear. And toss out the toast! Serve it as shown here, spooned atop sour cream with walnuts. C'mon, live a little!
A case of quince syrup (that was supposed to be jelly) gets a makeover... now it's quince-orange marmalade with star anise. A lovely solution for a project that had been sitting unfinished for a long time now!
