Punkberry: Rocking Berries All Summer Long

I love berries. A lot. And now that summer's upon us, the berries are bursting forth with amazing fecundity. That's why I wanted to kick off a little something called Punkberry

Basically, it's a summer-long celebration of the berry and its many uses in DIY food. Each month, we'll take on a set of berries:

June-July: Strawberries
July-August: Raspberries, blackberries and other brambles
August-September: Blueberries, cranberries and any others

We'll kick it off right on the first day of summer, Tuesday, June 21, with a Twitter party at 7 pm ET/4 pm PT, using the #punkberry hashtag. We'll be talking berries, getting and sharing inspiration -- and there might even be a few giveaways for a handful of lucky partiers.

From there, I'll be rounding up the best and brightest entries on Punk Domestics about berries, so I really wanna see how you're rocking the berries this summer. There's nothing wrong with your grandmother's strawberry jam, but what else you got going on there? Stay tuned also for recipes and more.

Wanna play along? Be sure to join the Twitter party, but if you want to show your Punkberry pride, nab a badge for your site (as seen at the top of the post). Just grab the code below, and off you go. Make sure you're editing in HTML!

Hope this makes you berry excited. I know I am!

Got extra berries?

My favorite move for berries in the summer is throw them into just about anything that has a batter or soft dough... just slice them to about a 1/4 inch thick and place them in (example) a loaf pan that's half full of a sweet bread mix and then pour the rest right over the berries, then go back through with a knife as if you're cutting a cinnamon swirl into the bread and you'll have berry bread with a beautiful reddish purple swirl from the berry juice! Bake and you'll be in love!

punk berry

Ack!!! I'm so excited about project punk berry! We LOVE berries. I love berries and now my boys LOVE berries. It's a childhood obsession that never faded....I could pick like I'm panning for gold, all day long. We just spent hours yesterday picking at t local farm and found wild blackberries the day before, just down the road:)

my first strawberry experiment

I had some rotting strawberries so mashed them up with cream and sugar and froze them. I'm not sure what it will be but I might melt it and mix it with vanilla yogurt to make some kind of strawberry fro yo. I can only hope!
